I didn't guess bulimia, but you made her body image issues pretty clear.
I'm a little wary now that this is going to turn into too much "her loving boyfriend tells her she's perfect and doesn't need to ________, so she magically gets better in, like, a week."
And, like, I get that's your formula--these people meet and help each others lives improve. But there's a line where it could cross into magic dick territory, and that'd be disappointing.
Also, stress eating ain't healthy, but it's the purging and all of the associated psych stuff that's REALLY bad. I hope ray does some reading on self-harm and eating disorders, because lots of uneducated, well meaning loved ones screw up and make things worse by the way they try to help people with depression, anxiety, and disphoria.
(sorry, I just get sooo anxious when fiction tackles "real" issues, because the vast majority I see gets everything just soooooo wrong)
Keep up the beautiful, engaging writing!
Throughout this story you have led us down this path of two characters, who are a bit out of the norm, yet you moved them towards that norm. We finally get to the intimacy between the two and you toss in her eating disorder. I know that Alicia had been hiding an issue and this one fits the symptoms you've shown us. I read the other comment and I don't see you as a writer who would take this road without the intention of dealing with it seriously. Certainly love is a significant factor in all illness and Ray being there will support the steps Alicia needs to take, but Ray knows from his year living with drug addicts that it will be hard work for Alicia. My biggest concern is Ray being late for work the day after Don 's warning. Such a good balance of good and bad for our characters. The sex was refreshingly normal, there was a light atmosphere throughout the night and up to the end. Bottom line very well written as always, and the plot development along with the continued exposure of the lead characters takes them from words on a page to real life people who could be walking beside us at any time. Of course 5 stars and remaining eager for more. Thank you - Kevin
This series is great. I'm thoroughly enjoying every new chapter. Thank you.
Finding peoples small quirks and issues as a love story unfolds is always interesting. And personally I find alecia crying and thinking that ray would leave her when he would obviously stand by her through anything is absolutely adorable. The sex was very nice if a bit plain, but as you wrote ray wasn't going into it expecting that anyway. And most real love stories dont break out whips, chains, and threesomes the first night either:) Keep it up! See you next week!
I love the detail in the stories, especially the early chapters about living on the edge. I have spent years around those who are close to homelessness and much of it rings true, even though I live in the UK.
I really like that the sex is almost a side issue as it makes a change from so many of the wham bam, thank you mam stories.
I have enjoyed every word so far, please keep going!
Good job on foreshadowing her bulimia and self-harm issues. ^_^ I'm enjoying the hell out of this series, I'm almost sorry to see the end approaching! Five stars.
But I really do not have the slightest idea what Ray can do to help Alicia.
why she described herself as chubby
But I will admit to being blindsided by her "disorder".
I hope this is something they can conquer together.
