There are a number of reasons for societal norms, conventions and rules of conduct, principal of which is "conduct yourself freely, as long as you do no harm to others". Otherwise, the rule of quid pro quo - an eye for an eye - quickly becomes the norm, and we all revert back to the law of the jungle: "the strong survive, the weak shall perish". And women will no longer have an iota of control over their own sexuality, as rape becomes the de facto standard.
