Who is you?

The English language only has one word for second person singular and second person plural--"you". German has "du" for close relations or informal, and "ihr" for plural you's. "Sie" is used for formal singular or either plural. French is similar with "tu" and "vous".

I lost track of when the teacher was speaking to one "you" or several. The limitations of English are such that the use of the second person in stories like this make it difficult to track.

In German or French the teacher might have used one form for one person, and the other for several; although, I've been told speaking to someone you don't know using the "du" form is insulting. But perhaps in German using "du" speaking to the students may heighten her dominance over them.

At any rate, in English, it was confusing.
