Even though we were warned, the present tense really ruined the story.

Allow me two editorial comments:

Your delicious 24 year old daughter should probably be speaking idiomatic American English. I know she lived in Britain until she was 12 but it's likely that she has now very much caught up with American-style talking.

The first person narrator style is very difficult to maintain. He becomes omniscient, and we don't really get the flavor of her personality.

It was a great story!! Ready for more!!!

dad/daughter is almost as big a turn off as having a blackie in the story. I STOPPED at dad.............
