About what? Are we to infer that it was his wife on the other side of that hole? Or was she telling him all about her night out, presumably with some strange man?

I suppose the author intentionally left that question for the reader to decide.

Yes, perhaps the author did leave the last sentence ambiguous in order to let the reader decide what it means.

But I think there are enough clues in the story and elsewhere to allow the reader to figure it out on their own. ;)

I thought the ending was very clear and made the entire story considerably more erotic.
