First, very intriguing story. I look forward to much more. The first-person blindfolded person is a tough story to tell. You want us to see what's happening and the narrator can't see. Using the attendant to tell the narrator what he sees so we can know the visual details, creates too much distance from the action. Then you want us to hear the feelings of the cowboy. Try using closely-attached third person or ditch the gasmask until much later and add a mirror. I will read more.
