Generally speaking, while the name of the equipment (land rover, various guns) should be stated in full at their introduction, they should be hardly ever be mentioned by more than a single word thereafter. Simply referring to them as SAW, SCAR, rover etc will better maintain the flow of the story. The full proper names are a bit too long and will distract from the story. It's more than sufficient for us to know which weapon is fired, no reason for the full desination and much less to say it is a rifle/assault rifle
