Hmm

Over 5 years living together with eating before also and she says no.

And to further hurt him says wants to sex others.

Then about a year after he leaves she marries.

Hmmmm and you wrote she felt he was the one?

PowersworderPowersworderalmost 6 years ago

I found this one really depressing.

The husband was shit on by the two women he loved in his life. The wife was an evil whore, but Lesley was no angel... He proposes to her, so she turns him down and publicly declares she wants to fuck other guys?!

Alan has no kids of his own, while douchebag Roger has four, breeding both women the husband cared about!

Yuck...

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 6 years ago
Definitely fiction... the insultingly illogical and stupidly nonsensical kind

A guy gets fucked around his whole life by two women only to find out that one stud was fucking both of them... and that's where you ended it? B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T !!!

What about the three kids that he raised? You had him make a stupid about her never seeing them again but didn't have him actually SAY anything. I repeat, B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T !!!

This B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T is well written so I gave it three stars.

Lesley

So Lesley breaks up with him to "experience" other men (plural) then finds and marries her first 'the one'. So it seems Roger was cheating on her almost from the start if not before.

The story ends rather abruptly with a lot of unrevealed details.

Not for me

Very unsatisfying I think, all this and we didn't even see him confront the wife? That was his reason for being at the bleedin' hotel! Not a single answer or explanation? Why on earth did she ever marry Alan if she was such a desirable woman and he was an also-ran?

It was pretty easy to guess who's husband Alan's wife were fucking around with when Les & Al started exchanging stories.

And a bloody lot of handholding for two people who hadn't met in twenty years and who had parted in anger. And calling Alan honey? That annoyed me, actually.

The romantic in me ...

.. would have enjoyed a happy reunion, with kids, because the best revenge is to live well. You are right to say that there is no reason to pay attention to Natalie at the end. Her bed is made and messed; she can go lie in it. And as for coincidence, we've all seen that. Bumping into someone you'd least expect happens. Why not this time? If the Three Merry Sisters of Fate made it happen, all the better.

A lovely story of true lovers finding one another, and thank you for it. 5*

At the end I got very very confused as to who was who, and why ... and why not a word to and from the future ex wife? Not a look or even a syllable. And why mention children when he is going to lose said children— he is not getting custody of children not his own. Lots of great dialogue, interesting conversation and concept, confrontation should have more... anger! But overall pretty good!

Under the laws of England & Wales, the persons named on the birth certificate are the recognised parents. In this instance, as the primary carer the husband would be given the main guardianship of "his" children, with generous visitation rights to the mother. Even if the mother gives up her career to remain at home, the court will probably prefer to keep the present status quo. The biological father, who has no record of any contact with the children would have to go to court to get visitation rights, and these may well be supervised if the court feels that malice is the primary motive. The mother can apply to change the birth certification details, based on DNA evidence, but unless the mother and biological father can show a marked change in attitude to their childcare responsibilities, Alan can also apply to be the guardian of the children and his history of full-time care would back up his plea to the courts. Social Services may well advise the court that the current status quo is in the best interests of the children

No Matter What They Like

To say in movies and on the tellie coincidences do happen, but I didn't believe it for long after Leslie sat down and the conversations began to get personal. Shame about the demise of an innocent laptop but it died a gallant death. Do you know why the British don't make computers? They never figured out how to make them leak oil. For those who haven't figured it out the reason there wasn't much to do with Natalie and Roger is simple, the story was never about them. Very good story, guess mom won't be slamming the door on her any more. Signed: BTW

You rushed the ending. I had to reread to figure out when Leslie discovered her husband. If it was drawn out a little more it could have been excellent.

"before you committed to marriage you needed to check out other men." - While she gets points for doing it before marriage, the whole idea is stupid! If you love someone, you shouldn't need to "check out" others. So what if some other person is a "better" lover, if you truly love your guy or gal, it shouldn't matter.

/

She had been thinking about their relationship for a couple of months, was ready to say yes, then two months later she suddenly needs more experience?

/

I figured that she's married to his wife's lover.

/

They shared a flat, but she lost the house? I thought a flat was an apartment?

/

He couldn't recognize her because she was gorgeous and 50 pounds lighter. So when he proposed, she was a plain, at least somewhat over-weight woman, and she's rejecting the guy that was good enough to live with for five years? Something doesn't compute.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 2 years ago

OK, I kinda guessed what was coming when I was somewhere near the bottom of page 1 or top of page 2. But that didn't stop me from giving this a 5. Not because my guess turned out to be correct, but because my guess turned out to be true. It's what I would have wanted for Alan, who deserved to catch a break somewhere, and it's a sweet thing that he caught this one. Such a shame they wasted 20 years through misunderstandings, though let's face it, the prime blame must go to Lesley and her stupidly hurtful declaration when she turned down his proposal. But all's well that ends well, I suppose, and maybe it's not too late for them to have a child or two of their own. Several comments below mine have complained that the ending's not complete. I demur. What's next seems clear enough, and detail is rightly sacrificed here in favor of a short and well-written end.

Hoping the MC would not get old girl friend.

Do not believe in public proposal. It should be a private moment. Love it when they say NO very loud. Maybe have a friend who did it that way, But All the ones who talked about it did it privately.

Did kids all look like wife? Otherwise he should have suspected something a long time ago

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

Regardless, if the MC had not run off when his proposal had been rejected, they still would not have patched things up. Lesley's reasoning for her rejection was really messed up. The fact that at 5 years she thought therr would be a proposal and welcomed it, to suddenly really questioning their long term relationship, living together in a jointly owned house, is nonsensical. And her reasoning that she wants to find the "one" and she "would know it when she meets him" was beyond damaging. No way to get back from that after he busted ass for months to get the ring. Yes she focused her thoughts, realized she had been temporarily insane, and looked for him. It was a nice touch that she looked for him and waited for him for over a year. Then she settled, though of course she extolled her husband Roger's virtues as a lover. But it sounds like truly only Belinda her daughter is what she was proud of. Wouldn't be surprised whe has already caught Roger before and forgave him or had suspicions. The way she talked about him was only as per his abilities in bed, something to which the MC's wife certainly benefitted. Even with all the time that has gone buy, given that her rejection 20 years ago eventually ended up driving him to settle in life not just marriage to a slut, who had Roger's children and had her husband raise them (can you say major child support x 3, Roger?), I have a hard time seeing them just ending up together. I can see why she would want to. She settled with Roger and lost her true love. But the MC is basically a broken mess and with all the shit he has had to endure, he woukd have the equivalent of relationship PTSD. So it is hard to imagine that he would jump right back in with Lesley. Especially since he already knows how two women in his life obviously love sex with Roger. Not trying to paint Lesley as a villain (that is Roger and the MC's wife Natalie). Her rationale for her public rejection was just stupid and immensely hurtful. But the MC is now in a fragile state, like a dog that has been kicked for 20+ years and backed into a corner. He would for quite some time, just focus on his kids and the divorce, and kick his wounds, not wanting to be hurt again. Maybe he and Lesley could reconnect over a period of time, but this ending implied they would be having sex that night ("don't reschedule too early in the morning") and she had finally gotten back her "one". Even if the damaged MC could get back into a meaningful relationship in reasonable time, Lesley should have tomwork for it again. His ego is crushed. He has gaping wounds of pain, present and past. And woukd have trouble trusting any woman desires him. Ending was too abrupt and trite.

Unique story. But ending was to brief and a bit simplistic. 20 years is a long time. But suddenly they are back together. They both settled. Suspect that Lesley knew Roger had forgiven Roger already once or more for cheating. She extolls his skills in bed and her daughter. She only says she "thinks" she found her one. But other things seem to.be missing there. Her logic when rejecting his engagement was nonsensical. But so was his permanent running away. Shows he is fragile. Nit sure even if she had found him that he woukd be able to take her back. Ending is short because MC comes off as a broken man.

Creative but could have used an epilog. They coukd have had their time in the sun but she misunderstood his delay in proposing and by then thought of needing to sample other men, now insecure in her relationship. What she did was stupid and she realized that within a day but he had bolted. She searched for over a year and was stonewalled by his mother and friends. While they thought they were being loyal, it deprived him of years of happiness. She got spooked. Didn't k own about his credit limit and issues getting a ring. He should have proposed earlier and promised her a ring or gotten help.fro parents. Yes she was immature but her dedication in searching for him for so long showed that she did really love him. But she was always one step behind and lost the thread. She waited 14 mo ths before meeting her future husband, Roger, a recidivist cheater, who was banging away with Natalie for all of.her marriage and probably including other women all of Lesley's marriage. She thought she found the one. But that is something cagey you say to an ex that you hurt but still feel for. As she said she had settled. Great sex but no real spark of romance or love. Alan had security issues. How else yo explain his fragility and fleeing completely so fast? Never talking to her again. U til 20+ years later. All he can think about is he sucked as a lover. Sorry but if they had stayed together and invested in their marriage and their sex life, it woukd have been better as a whole package than what she had with Roger. It is about growth and sexual development together while being in love. She settled, he settled. Liked the laptop to the face. Her reaction to Alan at the end was nit out if revenge vs Roger. Sure she heard about the 12 years of cyckolding by her husband. Her reaction was genuine: to fix the errors of the past, to restore what she lost, to be with Alan again. The "one" who got away. Alan will.be healed now. Just said thr many years apart. Fate is fickle at times. Good story. Natalaie was just a placeholder for a nasty cheating wife. Roger was a self centered entitled prick. He needed a "show" wife while he pursued his dalliances with Natalie and others. Suspect that Natalie was not her husband's first transgressions that she found out about. But the children and what he had done to Alan caused her to just bust it all up. Good for her. She is mature now. She knows whatbshe wants. Alan is in for a ride.

AnonymousAnonymous7 months ago

Well written. Great story. Glad they both found ecah other and reconnected. They deserve to be with their "one" true live, the rest of their lives. Who cares about Roger and Natalie. AnonymousAnonymous2 months ago

Great story. Heartbreaking for Alan. Also for Lesley but she finally found her "one" again after 20 long years.

My only critique would be why the author chose 20 years of separation. Maybe cut it down to half that and make the kids younger. Suppose though might reflect on custody.

To be fair, she did him wrong when he asked her to marry him. But he also did take her for granted and 5+ years for a commitment is playing with fire. Not to mention, as devastated as he was to just go ahead with a 'drop the mic' exit and flee around the UK is cowardly.

Moreover his griping that he waited 39 months, while she only waited 14 months is laughable. She realized the next day that she f$cked up and searched all over to find him. His mother stonewalling her killed her son's chance at happiness for two decades. 14 months vs 39 months is largely similar in that she seriously tried and finally realized she had lost him for good. He too longer to lick his wounds. And look where that got him: Natalie, the corporate slut.

Contrary to the consistent misinformed trope on this site, people with little to no sexual experience prior to marriage typically remain fulfilled with their marital sex life much longer than there more experienced counterparts. The correlation is opposite of ehat

many LW stories on this site contend; i.e. the more sexual experience a spouse has prior to marriage, the more rapidly they becomes NOT satisfied with their marital sex life. It isn't rocket science people.

Lastly, if he had gotten engaged to Lesley on their 5th anniversary of dating, we have no.way to know if she would have cheated on Alan or not going forward. The cynics will say she was a virigin before Alan and she wanted strange. So maybe she would have.

To be fair I think some of that was mindless babble on her part as she re-evaluated their relationship and got cold feet after he did not propose to her two months earlier. Who knows. However, the opposing view is it appears she was always faithful to Roger, despite her sex appeal, trusted him, despite his 12+ year affair with Natalie (basically Alan was a "cover" husband, raising Roger's children), and the fact that she really loved Alan, missed him deeply as she realized he was gone and could not find him, looking for him for a year, before giving up, and her comments at the end of the story.

A guy like Roger, haughty, arrogant, narcissistic, from old money could never be the "one" for anybody. Her relationship with Roger was based on sex first (great sex!), then evolved, and she got pregnant with Belinda. He may have been banging Natalie well past 12 years. She talked herself into thinking she had found the "one" in part because she already lost the "one" in Alan. However, when she first chatted with him and he asked her if she found the "one", she of course affirms that she did since she wanted Alan to feel bad about what (in her mind), he had given up 20 years earlier, because (a) woman scorned and all that and (b) she had been living with what she saw as abandonment (somewhat misguided).by Alan for 20 years. Think she can be forgiven that. Great story. 5 stars.
