but only because you're one of the best writers on this site. not sure about the story still. Maybe the Depression was just depressing.

Regarding your comment about chapter 1, as well as this one: Try not to get too hung up on the time period. It is a setting, which I try to faithfully render, but the story elements could as easily take place today, or even tomorrow. This tale takes its time to develop, but you already may gather from other commenters that there is a spectrum of enjoyment from ”Sucks!” to “6 Stars!” I hope you continue with increasing enjoyment.
