Up to your usual well written standards. There seems to be fewer and fewer writers on this site who create characters with moral integrity even though it is flawed in this case.

She could be criticised for not owning up to her months of fantasies, her planning and her near execution of her proposed betrayal. In a sense the rest of her marriage is a lie but on balance she probably did the right thing to protect her husband. Of course, if she did cheat on him in the future it would be the wrong thing to do as she clearly had not learnt her lesson because there had been no consequences for her treacherous behavior. She in many ways deserved to be exposed as a cheat but to what end. The moral dilemma!

I think if she had gone through with it and regretted it later, she should have confessed.

Good stuff. Since at no point from the moment she found out about the trip to her kissing the guy in her motel room did she have any serious second thoughts about going through with it, it seemed a bit jarring when she snapped out of it at the last moment. While it made for a dramatic moment, it did rob us of some of that "will she or won't she?" tension.

For planning things out to that point, she deserves to be in the doghouse for awhile (though she's avoided that by not confessing.) At least she didn't cross that final line, and was the one who stopped herself. All in all, I enjoyed the tale.

Just one very minor quibble. Her mind had already rebelled against the idea of infidelity before Stoney arrived in her room. The body was sending the usual messages (it has no separate capacity for thought) but the brain had already decided to reject them. I think this is implicit in your description of events but might have been made clearer.

It would have been easy. She was beautiful, young, sexy, and for some unknown reason desired me. And we were thousands of miles away from homes in different countries; I would have never seen her again.

And I'm guilty and yet proud to admit it was not what my wife would do that stopped me. It was what my children would do. I married a better woman than I deserve; she would have forgiven me. Her heart would have never mended, but she would have forgiven me. But not my children. My children would have tried, and faked, and acted like they understood, or accepted, or extended mercy. But in their hearts and minds I would have gone from the man they admired and respected, to a contemptible pieced of dog shit. They would never forgive me, and why should they? I would have shit all over their mother, all over our family, all over them. For a few orgasms with a young silly woman, who I would have treated like a whore. I could never look my children in the face again. No quality or quantity of sex is worth that cost. In the end my resistance was easy. What a novel concept; a woman in an LW story who DOESN'T think with her pussy! Well, I mean she did, but only up to a point, so she still gets credit for that. These just might be my favorite types of stories, where common sense wins the day.

I mean really, whether it's an overblown BTB story, or an overblown glorification of infidelity, women in LW stories tend to have so little self-control that they make dogs look like paragons of patience and willpower.

All that said, this story is a bit on the bland side for my tastes, so I'm tempted to give it a 4. But pickings have been so slim lately, I feel like this deserves to be elevated that much more, so full marks from me.

In terms of being a half campy parody, then abruptly flipping to documentary with Ken Burns-ian gravitas that explores " inside the mind " of New Milennial , ' trying to have it all ' woman who can be perilously suggestible to suggestive Lotharios, this was very hooky and very entertaining.

I only wish I could have seen Mary Tyler Moore circa 1980 star in an adaption of this work after she left Mr . Grant, Sue Ann Nivens , Ted Baxter and the ' Love is All Around ' theme song. But maybe another more contemporary, convoluted 'woman of certain age' thespian can bring her talents to this soap dishy drama. No need to waste it. You can never tell. I saw the high rating on this story but read it anyway, expecting another boring BTB tale. As a general rule, it seems that high marks are BTB, low 3’s are Cuck and in between we get some that are interesting.

Oh, the story! I liked it. Well-written change of pace!

It covered this scenario somewhat. It seems that more wives are straying for at least one affair as they grow older and are in long term marriages. The author was a woman who had spoken to a small group of them about why and it really comes down to the fantasy they build around a certain target. Some of them did not go so far as to make the fantasy a reality or came close but stopped at the brink, like this tale, and others simply did it as a one off.

When asked many of those who did go through with it said that since it was a once or twice situation, they held no guilt over it and simply were going to keep it a secret until their death.

It really made me ponder on whether this is something that has been going on since forever, or if something has changed in the years since I was born to exacerbate the phenomenon. I even contemplated writing something about it, but I haven't had the muse to inspire me, plus this category became horribly toxic a while back. It's hard to think about creating something and sending it to die here.

Anyway, 5 stars and sorry for rambling. Back to your regularly scheduled program.

Interesting comment. I have also become very interested in hearing the reasons why women cheat. The stories I've heard and the reasons behind the infidelity have varied, but at that same time remained consistent.

I think the question you've asked yourself about if it has always been this way or if it is a recent influx is also interesting. I think it's a little of both. This is the age of the internet which is making connection to such stories easier to get to. We are constantly hearing about teachers who are having sex with underage students, and almost every man asks the same question. "Where were these teachers when I was in high school?" Truth is, this isn't very new, but the 24 hour news coverage and easy access to information have made these things seem like a bigger deal than it did in the past.

At the same time, this is also the age of narcissism. Everyone (especially in the west) is told that we have the right do whatever makes us happy. We are ultimately responsible for making our own happiness, and the happiness of others is secondary. While that's not a bad thing, it does give a sense of entitlement that wasn't there in previous generations. We want what we want, and we want it now: fuck everyone else! Kids kill their parents for forbidding them to see their boyfriend/girlfriend. People have tried to blackmail and harass writers for television shows to make the characters do what they want (kind of like the Loving Wives section). We even get upset at the drive thru window if the food isn't given to us within the first few minutes of pulling up!

This attitude is also prevalent in marriages. We are told if our spouse doesn't make us happy then we have the right to do what we have to do. This is especially true for women, because this is the booming voice of feminism. Women are finding the courage to demand their share, and are looking to right the wrongs the previous generations. They feel that men have had the right to cheat for centuries, so they are entitled to do the same now. Agree or disagree, it makes for great conversations and debates.

Interesting comment. Made me think. I would also be wary about writing a story exploring the reasons why. It will inevitably be taken as "psychobabble". I too have a few stories that I've chosen to post on other sites because I don't see the point in posting them here. They are less erotic and more character driven, but they still explore the subject of infidelity and the reasons behind it.

Each and every one of us have at one time seen someone, somewhere, that the thoughts of 'what if" crop up, even if fleeting and never acted upon.

Sexuality is something everyone has in common, in one form or another. That is just nature.

Beginning the steps to act on those thoughts is of course, cheating if we are to believe the morals of society.

But those are not real, either, we live under the guise of the way things are supposed to be, even though the truth is seldom that. We even create LAWS intended to deny those truths, ask any massage therapist, any physician, anyone dealing with the intricacies of life at a personal level.

Hands, touch, the thoughts are there, suppressed so often but also obvious.

Scandals? Those happen only when someone gets caught, then so many of us can act righteous even though so many of us bear the same guilt.

So, having a fantasy and almost acting on it, in this case truth and fantasy were not the same thing.

They seldom are, and that Is a simple fact.

It was because the characters were plausible and real. Well...except for Nelson, he was too perfect. Might as well have made him invent the cure for cancer and solve the Middle East crisis.

Expertly written with a very interesting main character. Love to watch and see how close to the edge you can maneuver your characters without pushing them off the cliff! Whether the wife 'cheated' or not is an interesting discussion topic. Certainly she cheated emotionally. Is that enough to end the marriage? Fun discussion!

Faithfulness seems like a scare commodity in today's society-especially the stories on Literotica. It's nice to find one like that, even though the main character started out thinking unfaithful thoughts constantly.

... And yet.

Not going to be completely original here (most of what I'm about to write has already been said by other commenters): an exceptionally good story about a woman finally acknowledging that fantasies and reality aren't at all the same thing. Sure, Langley definitely did cheat in her heart - well, more accurately, in her vag - but consequences to this, compare with actually doing the act... well, there's actually no comparaison. I mean, I can even forgive her for thinking about Stoney while doing it with Nelson - not cool, but still manageable, and definitely not a reason to call off a marriage.

It's kinda funny her body realized the bonehead mistake she was making way before her mind did - her whole being went from "oooooh, so hot, me so horny!" to "wait - she's really going to do this? IS SHE DUMB!? ABORT! ABORT!!!" lol

So great, she's going to recommit herself to her husband, her family... but, as a lot of people pointed out, her thinking that Stoney and Nelson never will meant is quite idiotic. They will meant in one of her office's functions - there's simply no way around them. Hopefully, she will eventually realize that obvious fact, and use their weekend away in Galena, NOT to confess - that would be a mistake - but work on a true recommitment. It's one thing to say to yourself "I haven't been the best wife lately", but quite another to actually look at your spouse and say out loud "Nelson, I know you may not have felt it, but I wasn't fully acting like the wife you deserve lately; so let's sit down and see if there's anything you still wanted out of our relationship, and haven't got yet." So, If Nelson feels like you guys should do more activities together, without Evie being around,she should go for it. If he is still wondering how anal sex would be like, time to get the KY going! But what would really seal the deal is seriously taking about having another baby - springing a pregnancy on him would be stupid, but discussing it together would prove Langley's full commitment to their marriage. And, if she happened to show up pregnant to the Christmas office party, with Nelson on her arm, there's very little doubt he'll care that much about how good looking Stoney turned out to be, given that his wife only have eyes for him...

Sigh. Look at me - directing the lives of fictional characters. Again.

Love this story. Need more tales of people realizing cheating ain't worth a good marriage. Thanks for the journey, author.

I really like a story where the wife is faithful. Sure our heroine had her fantasies and her big chance, but she came through it. Nelson's a lucky fellow. I pity Stoney's wife; some day the chickens will come home to roost.

Excellent story.

Have heard unending comments about all guys cheat-think with their dink-now females turn.

While I dispute those generalizations, I want to point out another fact. Those cheating males had partners for those trysts. Females who KNEW the guys were married. Most likely those females were also in relationships...girlfriend, fiancee, or wife.

Females have always cheated at least as often if not moreso than males!

Certainly her company has social functions. Certainly the lothario will be in attendance. Certainly her husband will remember ''movie star'' that was on her plane that she did not see...or know.

An eyebrow will be raised, her face will flush, questions will be asked, doubts will germinate....

Husband will know she is hiding something...true she is...that is why when daughter asked she should have just said...''oh that was just Stoney''

Seriously though, should she be stoned to death because she almost did cheat? No, IMHO people have fantasies all the time. She unfortunately couldn't get him out of her head and almost did the deed! However, thankfully her mind and body woke up just in time. Yes she was guilty of planning and almost committing an act that she would never have been able to come back from, but thankfully she realized in time just how bad that would have been. Finally a story where the wife didn't decide to trash her life!
