Life on the trail was hard, and there were no public services, like police or ambulances. Those pioneers had to take care of themselves--taking medicine and justice in their own hands. They were amazingly tough, as you've pointed out. Yet, on the other hand, they were tender and found love.
You've done a great job showing both sides. Best story I've read in awhile.

A lovely story, threading ancient strands.
And, after all, nothing is really new, just the telling, and this is delightful.

Shes' sneaky, crafty and tough!!!
Still a great flowing story!!
I have loved it so far. It is very detailed and excellent character development.
And the knight in shining armour comes riding in on his white charger and rescues the fair damsel and they live happily ever after.
