Honesty makes for a good companion

Being a guy, I'd like having him for a friend. At the least I'd know where he stood on issues of importance to both of us, unlike a few friends I have now.

asshole

he was a asshole for sure but a honest one,and had a big ego too, only thinks about himself, if i was a girl he never would have gotten to first base. when he said you had to ask him out then impress him, i would have told him to fuck off from the start.

Ted

Is neither, going by the story alone.

He UNDERSTANDS that most people LIE to appear polite.

He's got an almost unwavering honesty policy.

I have lived more like Ted than most. My best even introduces me like this: "this is X, please don't take anything he says personally" I was mad at first when he said that, after literally 2 seconds of reflection, I laughed and had to admit it was accurate.

When I break my honesty policy, it's 90% a bad move in my opinion. Even if I do it for decorum. The only rare time I find lying worthwhile is if I: 1)don't respect the person at all or 2) want to boost their confidence by telling them they are better than they actually are...hoping it becomes self-fulfilling.

He MAY be an asshole, but the story paints a refreshingly honest bloke.
