A real man would have gone above Valerie's head to the senior partners as soon as Valerie revealed her blackmail to Janine. So what if he lost his job? So would Valerie. Negotiated properly he could finagle a voluntary resignation in order to save the firm the embarrassment of publicly revealing one of their lawyers was sexually harassing and blackmailing a subordinate. Sure having to look for new employment would be difficult, but it's far preferable to this ever increasing load of crap he's having to put up with.
