No entity claimed her, some thing just watched. The father of her (I assume) Indian visitors got her though. If this is all of it, then it's pretty bare. If there is more coming, then it's a decent introduction.
All and all the series has a good traditional faery tale feeling. Well written.

It might interest the author to know that places in modernized faery tales have characters soothing/calming someone by combing out or braiding their hair are traditionally in the 'non bowdlerized' originals where the support character would be picking nits/lice out of the main character's hair.
