Carmen looks conflicted.

"I'll work on it," she offers. Ashe accepts that. I think she still believes Carmen's crazy, but a manageable crazy. I'm praying she's right.

(Two Years Later)

I'm walking onto the porch when Carmen opens the door. Even when I'm early she always seems to know when I'm coming up to the house. She has little Steven on her hip and a broad grin on her face.

"Was he any trouble today?" I ask before kissing my wife and tussle my son's head. He bats at my hand and giggles. Carmen hungrily kisses me back telling me with her body that today's been a good day.

"He's been an angel, like his father," she smiles. "I can tell by your face that you have good news." She knows what it is but allows me my moment.

"I got the fellowship grant. I'm going to get my doctorate," I crow. Carmen hugs me. She knows that getting my doctorate will most likely lead to a teaching position at the college, which will mean staying in the house and home forever.

"I have good news too," Carmen responds. I let her have her moment's hesitation before she continues. "Ashe is going to do her residency at the County General Hospital. She'll need a place to stay until she gets enough for her own place."

"And?"

"I told her I'd have to check with you, but I sort of promised her a room. That way she'll get to spend time with her godson," she grinned.

"Which means we'll have a few nights to ourselves," I tease.

"Only if you want to," she acts demurely.

"I want to ..." I smile.

"I love you Rob," she says.

"I love you too," I respond.

5/5

Original, crazy story

Many grammar errors and missing words, though

So now he's complicit to the actual murder of his best friend?

You know how to tell a story, gotta hand it to you. But Rob and Carmen have issues. They're murderers, for one.

Kind of kinky. Too kinky for the suspension of my disbelief.

Yet, 4* and the sloppy writing full of errors forgiven.

Ok. Just read the entire series. The story is disjointed. The writing and grammar are poor.

Wow, among all your stories that I've read, this is the first you've finished. All in all amazing story.

Waaack

Like all your stories it's well written, but the suspension of belief is just too much. There's no way Rob ever makes it into a college or a doctorate/master's program being as dumb as he is.

Wild ride

This was very much an emotional rollercoaster for me. Your story was great, I knew when I started this was older so the little mistakes were easy to overlook. I can't really wrap my head around Rob staying with Carmen after learning the details of Steve's demise. I had been hoping for something to come together with Ashe. This did not diminish the story for me. Thank you James for letting us enjoy your work.

Blades

Blades is a story I've been working on for three years and have recently made some progress on (4 chapters completed), but I'm unsure if it is ready for submission, or is the right fit for Literotica (being very light erotica). Recently I've made progress through chapters three and four with the help of a reader on this site, but at the moment I'm stuck on chapter 5 with no progress in sight.

The tale is an alternate history yarn set in a Byzantine Empire that never collapsed, never suffered through the 4th Crusade and recovered to much of their 11th century frontiers by the year 1650. The protagonist is a street rat duelist with a dangerous past. The Empire is about to be in another moment of crisis and our 'hero' is caught up right along with events. As the title suggests, there is plenty of combat settled with cold steel with plenty of intrigues to boot.

I hope this helps.

Okay, this was really interesting.

It was interesting for a 'Fatal attraction' style story to develop into a love story with a relatively happy ending. I don't know if you meant to but the control over and repetitive nature of Carmen's night time visits are indicative of conditioning/grooming Rob. For a story with such dark undertones and unstated motivations, that I noticed that there was some psychological manipulation really added to the story for me.

I'll agree with JCC that you can notice it's not as 'mature' as your more recent work and there was some real strange and abrupt scene transitions throughout but the core of the story is a great one.
