Zander's speech, all fourty-four words of it, and Elena's reaction to his argument, are truly inspired. In the span of two paragraphs and change, Elena is elevated from an undefined character to a genuine personality with believeable, authentic motivations - all while foreshadowing future drama and serving as an amazing, natural cliffhanger.
