i kept checking how old was the PI, DG cos he sure sounded and acted way too old for 38 and older than any 38 males i've encountered my whole life. I loved it! the narrative seemed just the way a private eye would tell a story--no embellishment, just the facts, told in a logical sequence. By the time your detective had leased the car for the girl, you had me falling in love with her too! For all the simplicity of your story-telling, you got across the various moods of the detective: feeling sorry for the young mother, getting seriously involved with the little daughter, being embarrassed to admit his tender feelings, handling the collection of evidence for his clients in a matter-of-fact way, being assertive with the rapist, being reduced to child-like feelings by his sister as she assumed a maternal responsibility for her grown brother. For a simple tale, this had a lot in it. A tale well told!

I have enjoyed most all of this author's stories but to me this one is probably the best one he has. It really made me feel good to read it.

You do so incredibly well when you introduce the kids into the mix.-

Of course that is partially due to the fact that I love kids especially mine so that is a good push button for me -

love how it rolled along and evolved....just brilliant...a great story of love and making that bastard pay up...but he should have ruined him...too many assholes like him get away with stuff then pretend they are the great public servant while ripping people off...just like Trump....

Agreed the check amount would not cover the expenses of a child with medical problems. However, the amount was probably correct to have the scumbag agree to pay and also officially waive his parental rights. An amount more than this may have pushed the cost vs benefit analysis in the direction to fight it.

In the end Peggy gets some money to get out from under water and the scumbag is out of her and her daughter's life. Sounds like win-win.

How come these beautiful women the hero ends up with never have a boyfriend when they meet?.

What a great story of a first time hooker who found a generous loving man who rescued her and her daughter from who knows what kind of a future, then falls in love and they live happily ever after. 5++stars
