Pretty severe injury to be awake and chatting the next day, especially if the impact was enough to kill the parents. And to finish school within a month? That's pretty high-strung.

Fantasy? Yeah, I know, but fantasies are supposed to be believable.

I know a couple of people with spinal injuries who were talking as soon as they came to in the hospital. Just because you're in hospital doesn't mean you lose the ability to speak, especially if someone of significance is there when you wake.
