Maybe I completely missed it, but I assumed they were both Chinese(UK), is it that the protag just doesn't speak Chinese? Or is he a Brit? Or is it a different dialect thing?

Just confused. We get frequent descriptions of Jia, but none (that I can remember) of the protag, which would have probably nipped this confusion in the bud tbh.
