Melinda piped in, "Well, he obviously didn't go without today!" They stood in their doorway waving until Ashley and I were both out of sight.

We haven't gone forward as if none of this had happened. Even if that were possible, it would be stupid to forget the lessons we learned. We work hard at being transparent to each other, we make sure we face situations together, and we try not to take anything for granted. We didn't take John up on his counseling offer. Ashley's one of the smartest people on the planet, she says I'm smarter than I look, and I think we're managing just fine.

Tom is doing great, and the family is closer than ever. He and Jill keep razzing us about giving them some nieces and nephews to play dodge ball with, but for now, Ashley and I are serving a greater good. Her talents are critically needed, by people who are just as desperate as Tom was. I've changed jobs and joined her firm, so I can contribute my talents as well, though they're not on the scale of Ashley's. Still, we're on the same team. Our lunch hours are great, too, though we're careful to keep them away from Dr. Whisenant. He really is a pretty good guy, once you get to know him; he's just a little... well, you know.

Was Ashley's cheating really for the greater good? Perhaps, but we both know there are better ways the greater good could have been served. From now on, we're doing it right, together.

The lengths writers go to justify cuckoldry never ceases to amaze me.

Can't write one MC with an ounce of self-respect.

Very well done. Ashley is such a great character, quirky and sexy and unique.. Made it easier to stomach the reconciliation which is just about believable given the story structure. The thing that isn't believable is this idea that someone needs to get fucked in order to "clear the mind" and to get past a mental block, like sex is some magic solution to intractable problems. This is absurd but as it is central to the plot I guess we make allowance for fictions sake.

A really well written follow up to the original and better in one crucial way which is there was an actual ending to the story which the original was missing. Did Ashley cheat? Of course she did. She could and should have spoken to her husband and asked his help and didn't do that. Nor did she really explain why she didn't do that. The "space station" and "not part of the team" excuses were just that excuses to cover her awful behaviour. Should the MC have forgiven her? Should he have booted her? Both options are valid and he got answers he was happy to accept and live with so the way it was written the reconciliation was valid. Yes I know some people froth at the mouth about reconciling after one partner cheats and believe that there is no reasons why that should happen. That's their choice and if they are happy with black and white then go live your life with your beliefs and be happy. But firstly life is complicated and usually many shades of grey and as such we all need to consider all the options. Secondly if an author develops a plot with a burn or a reconciliation then does it feel believable for the characters portrayed. So I try and judge a story on does it work for those people and not does it work for me. In this scenario it does work for him and her. Personally I think Ashley got off lightly for making a surprisingly stupid decision and think she wasn't being truly honest and transparent. But its a great story and deserves 5 stars. BardnotBard
