This is really sweet and endearing and would love them to be closer moving forward. With apologies to the author and lesbian community, this is my headcanon:

Their love only grew stronger over the years since, and, unable to settle on permanent partners finally decided to buy a house and live together. Actually they each bought one-half of a semi+detach house and built a door in the shared wall. This way can share their abundant love with each other and with others.
