Technically they were second cousins-in-law, if there is such a thing. Though not related by blood, this was surely a taboo, at least in some parts of the country

BTW, in all states second cousins are allowed to marry, and several allow first cousins. However, if she is still married to the mother's cousin, yeah, that would probably create problems.
