Well written & great solution to handle this ex-wife.

I don't think that the law firm would come up with a settlement without involving the wife. She is the main wronged party to the firm's eye; she had the affair with her boss. Why would they settle to avoid publicity with the husband if there is nothing from keeping the wife from a suit of her own?

Perhaps a little long and repatative, perhaps not technically/legally correct (would an abortion clinic confirm to anyone who rang....?).But good all the same.

The story was decent, but somehow I just couldn't accept the ending. You started with a take-charge kind of man who figured out there was a problem and found a way (although a rather passive one) to identify and eliminate the problem.

But then you have him allow his ex-wife to worm her way back into his life.

It just doesn't ring true. This man obviously is intelligent, and if he can score with Jackie on a first date, he'd have no problem getting all the pussy he could ever need. And your story had him mention that his life for his ex was dying because of her betrayal. Why would he take her back and pay her as a maid.

Just something to think about. The story has its good points, but because of the rahter contrived ending I felt it didn't have the impact it could have.

After a couple of years of living together, depending on the state, they would probably be recognized as a common law marriage. The only difference is that she would get a salary for what she used to do for free as a wife and mother. Even if he tries to humiliate her by calling her a maid that's not a bad punishment...

realize their mother was a paid whore who lived with you and was paid to provide you sex. Actually the wife in suffesting what the kids would think of him dating isnt really a problem. Them living in the same home pretending to be married and not being is a problem. You know if you are going to use sluts, you may as well have your own private one you dont have to share nor to worry about STDs and AIDS from. The woman you described in the story had no love or affection in reality for her husband or she would never have committed the acts in the first place and then continued with them. But if the writer was trying to tell a story, it was really bad. There was little emotion in this whole thing. I wondered why the first page was done with no dialogue until I saw how poorly the writer did dialogue. Frankly, this writer needs a spellchecker and a lot of education in how to write.

This story is easy to follow. There are some typos and a couple of special spellings the author uses for words. The story is wide open to alternate endings and the author should perhaps request such for other writers. No, Lucsmith, I do not think that the punishment exceeds the crime. I think that the two are nicely in line with each other. You write well and you seem to carefully think out what you write. I look forward to reading more by you in "Loving Wives." RAG

<p>Say what? Come "ON". This character was twisted and wrong. At any point he could have just "walked" away and gotten his revenge just as well. But according to the story he needed someone to pay. And it took an abortion clinic to do it. And because he is using his wife like a whore now, for the rest of their life together, now they're even? Really?!?</p>

<p>And the wife, that one just made me laugh. Here on one hand she gets off on cheating for over a year with her lover and not caring that she was ignoring her family to pursue sex with him at every turn. Then later, she goes and gets an abortion, while talking about how much she loves her kids, like its "no big deal", and the story never has her referencing it ever again. Then when the ex-husband stays out overnight with a lady friend, she starts on him about "how it looks" (notice she never cared, or mentions, the irony of that double standard when just the year before <i>she</i> was gone for "days" at a time when she was sleeping with her lover) and offers herself up as the new sexual love intrest for the husband if he'll just give up other women. And the husband jumps at the chance, because now she'll give him better oral sex and now he'll get anal, something that he was denyed before? That is enough for him to keep her around? Huh??</p>

<p>And the story failed to address how he got sole custody. Normally the wife has to be proven to be a <b>danger</b> to the kids since they are so young. A simple affair now days isn't enough. Did she give up custody? If she wants them now so bad, what happened during the divorce to give them to him? That was left out of the story too.</p>

<p>It appears that the only <b>punishment</b> you put in the story was that the husband tricked the wife into getting pregnant and a fetus (to me an unborn baby) had to died so the wife could hide her affair, and then later the <i>second</i> half of the <b>punishment</b> was that the the wife was willing to whore herself out to her ex-husband for his attention and the ex-husband refused to marry her again, while maintaining that he still loved her, as punishment for cheating on him, while giving her some false hope about their future together. And neither one of them seemed to think it might scar their kids later in life when they figured out what was going on? Yep that's a healthy realtionship.</p>

The prose needs work so please get an editor to help with grammar and syntax. The story's pacing is decent, and I found the plot not too fantastic. I'm still trying to get my head around bedding down with his adulterous wife but I'll put it down to literary license.

Here's what doesn't fly. I don't know how Canadian law works but in the USA, cohabitation with an adult female with all the trappings of marriage leads to common law marriage after a set number of years. He can say "I ain't" but the law says "You is."

That won't engender any questions from the young'uns that will require more than a one word answer, I'm sure. Certainly it will generate some interesting discussion at mealtimes.

According to the author's profile, he's Canadian. I'm guessing French Canadian. Last time I checked, Canada is still a sovereign nation that isn't part of the good ol' USA.

I could have handled the incredible amount of typos and misspelled words if the husband had acted the same throughout the entire story. He has to change because his daughters might be "affected" by his staying out overnight. What kind of weak-ass bull is that? With the amount of divorces that occur these days, there are dozens of counselors that will explain anything that the daughters would ever want to know about. The amount of "emotional trauma" they would actually have would be minimal.

Also, he couldn't afford a decent daycare or au-pair? Instead he invites the woman that betrayed him to live with him.

To me, his solution was no solution at all.

It was an interesting read overall, though the co-habitation issue strikes me as being off. I don't think I could ever allow someone back into my life like that, even with the extra sex.------

Oh, and Alvaron53, just to clarify, two people can co-habitate indefinitely in Canada without the necessity of a common-law state provided they do not file jointly on their income tax return. The first time you do that though, you are claiming common-law status in the eyes of the law. But if you don't, then it is simply a roommate situation, so the character in this story is in the clear for the duration of their continued living arrangement, provided there is a working agreement in terms of rent and expenditures, and since he is paying her for her services, that could easily be worked into any agreement.

I think the common law comments are probably correct - in most places cohabiting will end up with hubby taking on the legal obligations of a marriage. I disagree with Risq about custody - if the wife gives it up (as this one did) the husband can end up with sole custody - I have been there and done that.<p>What is described in this story might be characterized as "rolling reconciliation." I think the revenge Jake achieved did re-establish balance to the relationship (which was completely thrown out of balance by Jane's blatant lies and cheating). My guess would be that as they go forward, they'll eventually regain trust in each other and they have the potential to achieve a good relationship. However, Jake would always need to trust but verify. At the end of the day, I think this is a well written and credible story.

My first test of a story is if I enjoyed it. This passed. The email account/chatroom was original (at least to me).

I know that the husband states that he can't afford an investigator, but... 1) he easily could have discovered the hotel/room and paid a few hundred to have it documented.

2) Ditto for the "trips", but the cost would have been more.

One thing that I don't understand is why he believes if she tells all, it should be forgiven.

Another issue I have is the idea a company would pay a great deal to hide the fact an attorney and secretary had an affair. This is 2007, not 1957. I know of a number of instances where this has happened. Basically, the courts have ruled that companies are not held responsible to monitor the private lives of their employees. Even a morality clause in the contract won't help because it is written to protect the company, not force the company to patrol its employees.

Alienation of affection suits are only allowed by a handful of states and generally not worth the costs - although a few have received huge awards lately.

I agree that a good editor could have made your story even better. However, I did not find your typos too distracting.

Sorry, you write well, but I did not like the story at all. You have to have someone to cheer for in a story but I could not find anyone likeable in the story. The wife cheated on her husband, the husband deceived the wife and and caused her pregnancy by substituting sugar for her birth control pills ( a steal from an other Lit story) and then makes her his sex slave after he becomes wealthy by sueing her employer and lover. You could have gone into more detail when you were making her talk about her affair with that guy. That would have made the story much more erotic.

You got it almost right. It is fine to keep the ex around as a fuck-buddy. The maid service is a nice touch also. BUT do not deprive yourself of other pussy! Just because Jacky,Jill or whoever don't "measure up" to the ex, keep searching and don't stop looking. Even if you never find some one as good as the ex (bloody unlikely) you can have a hell of a lot of fun searching. Your story was very emotionally satisfying, and although he didn't wimp out he came close, still a happy ending. (You need a better editor.)

The argument the husband's been making, again, up until the very end (where it became vague because the argument had fallen into the wayside like all unsound arguments in the past), is that the pills thing was TO PUNISH an adulterer he NO LONGER cares about, and whom he intended to divorce, when and only when he is satisfied that she's dug deep enough a hole for herself. <p>

Remember that whole PREMISE to this story is about REVENGE, not about crying croc tears and/or reconciliation. <p>

When you are willing to risk the life of a person, by messing with her pills ---- BECAUSE that person, you truly believe, was willing to risk your life/health by sleeping with other sexual partners (remember, it is germs, bacteria, and viruses we pass to each other that kill us, not god or satan or other deviant spirits) --- you must have decided she wuold no longer be a part of your future. <p>

And I am totally fine with such cold calculation, such a premise.... <p>

I just find it very silly for HIM to, as Harry puts it, be responding with more or less a tone of "Yes, mame" to her "logic" about him not spending nights with friends... because such activities would damage their young daughters' psyche. Such "yes mame" tone, to me, is NOT the tone of a man who is in complete charge of his life or his own fuckin' house hold! <p>

Subsequently, such contradicts his cold, calculate nature: and that is to punish a person who no longer hold any sway in his decision or thought. <p>

The author does not realize --- by making the woman not realize --- that to have her moralize, at this point,(after having fucked around for a whole year, denying the good silly husband proper sex, and getting pregnant ["it's not my fault; someone must have messed with my pills!"], is totally uncalled for and superfluous. <p>

It is illogical, unsound, stupid, and nonsense. To have HER moralize and NOT to have the husband pointing such hypocrasy out but instead simply to have him say, in effect, "Oh, yes, dear. That does look bad, does it? Okay, no more sleeping around, dear... Especially when you offer sex with no strings attached here at home..." <p>

THAT is getting to be too silly to believe.... again, with such a seemingly determined man/husband. Now, unlike Harry, I have not read this author's other works, so I have not idea if this is a pattern of his... but I judge one story at a time...

One of the things which drive me nuts about this site is that every time a woman gets knocked up she has the baby. Its like abortion does not exist. Its about fucking time that someone actually writes realisticly how a woman would deal with an unexpected pregnancy. It is true that a majority choose to have the baby. Never-the-less, I really find it offensive when authors write female who most likely would get abortions, and instead have them meekly have the baby. Thankyou sir for actually having the wife get an abortion.

Let’s clear up the Common law marriage speculation.

The basis of much of our law comes from the English common law. Each state didn’t say, “Let’s set up a way for people to be married without a license or religious service.” So, other than the fact that most states no longer recognize common law marriages, you would expect common law marriage, if it is still recognized, to be the same in every state that allows it.

Common law requires 1) that the parties agree that they are married, 2) that they live together, though a situation where the husband was in the military in another location might still pass that test, and 3) they hold themselves out to the world as married.

You can have an actual common law marriage “service.” It would consist of the two parties declaring before witnesses that it is their current intention to be married to each other.

The seven year guideline was used as evidence the parties had fulfilled all three requirements. It could be rebutted by testimony or other credible evidence like filing tax returns as single people. It never created a marriage, it created a presumption.

On the other legal issue discussed in the comments, alienation of affections has been removed as a cause of action in most states. That doesn’t mean no legal action is possible. I don’t know if it has been successfully used, but it isn’t a stretch to imagine a suit for tortious interference with contract, since marriage is a contract.

From Wikipedia: Tortious interference with contract rights can occur where the tortfeasor convinces a party to breach the contract against the plaintiff, or where the tortfeasor disrupts the ability of one party to perform his obligations under the contract, thereby preventing the plaintiff from receiving the performance promised.

There is a model act floating around to specifically add the marriage contract as the subject of tortious interference. I know it was being discussed in Minnesota but don’t know if anything came of it.

I would imagine an insightful lawyer might sue on the husband’s behalf not only for emotional damages, but for child support if the husband is ordered to pay it, which never would have happened had not the third party so interfered with the marriage contract as to cause a divorce.

Hate to tell you misogynists this - but it doesn't work this way. FIRST: Screwing the wife after you find out that she has been unfaithful condones her previous behavior; in other words, you are back to square one. SECOND: Cheating on the other spouse affects custody ONLY when the children are aware of it.

Did she recieve any punishment? Lets see she denies her loving husband sex acts that she eagerly give to her lover, while cheating for over a year, then after he kicks her out she gets right back to where she was before the affair with only one small exception no ring.

Not a bad story, and fairly well written. The big problem was the development of the character of the wife, especially after the divorce. The wife was, without question, a profound liar, and a wholesale adultress. She was a very mean person to her husband. Why should she expect any sort of influence with her ex? There was nothing to show that she had dramatically changed her lack of respect for her husband; nothing to show that her moral values had, somehow, improved; nothing to show that she had grown into some sort of responsible person. The only change was her professed concern for "the children"<p>

That would hardly be enough to convince someone who had been victimized by her for over a year to take her back.

A more realistic response would be to have her take the children to her place for overnight; to use the "business convention" pretense (as mentioned by another commentor); take the kids to a grandparent; or hire an overnight babysitter. A little thought would have suggested even more approaches.<p>

To take her back, even under the conditions stipulated, would put her back into the driver's seat, and, once again, display his gullibility. The ending sets him up as one who will be made a sucker again. Even though they are not married, his ex-wife will find a way to make a fool of him. He should have told her to to piss off if she did not like his dating habits.<p>

This would be a good story upon which to base a sequal concerning their future relationship.

You had a good story until the end where you showed that along with her other talents that Jane possessed she was also a master manipulator and that Jack turned really stupid at the end. Jane didn't care about her "brat" daughters for fifteen months but know she uses them to make Jack feel guilty so he will agree to her terms. Did she feed him stupid pills because all of a sudden he's agreeing to anything she says. Also, you never told what happened to Jason Weldon. Did he get a divorce? Did Jack win his law suit against him for alienation of affection? One by one, you allowed Jane to escape the consequences of her malicious behavior towards her marriage, husband and daughters. I mean if she only cheated a couple times and found the strength and character to end the affair on her own because she didn't want to harm her family. Then yes, I could see it but she was never going to end her affair nor cared what she was doing to her family without Jack's intervention. Even when Jack confronted her about her unattentive behavior to him and the kids. Sorry, Jack's character was completely inconsistent at the end with the rest of the story. Of course, if his character was consistent with the Jack at the end of the story then Jane would still be fucking Jason and everybody would still think that they had a loving family.
