What fun!

That's a great start to a story and very much like a fantasy I've entertained. Looking forward to part 2

nicely done -

cleverly conceived and written, although may have less impact on those not fortunate enough to have visited the pergamon - which, I see, is now closed for 5 years of remodeling; a bit of background woven into the opening of the story might have made it stronger... or arguably might have gone over heads here.

one minor quibble, since you chose your site as what is generally regarded as the highest achievement of the Hellenistic greeks, i found the closing ref to the ancients a bit jarring, while they worked in the general themes of the ancient greeks, their achievements were the manifestation of the decidedly different post Alexandrian era -

note to readers thinking of trying if for themselves - while I've spent many an enjoyable night bivouacking with the gods in temples/ruins across greece, where the guards used to go home promptly at quitting time, if not before, the much tighter ass krauts didn't provide the leeway for such indulgences in berlin, not even during the entertaining confusion after reunification.
