Where have the grandma, his great love if the two of them are available at home without attracting attention, even though the family thought it was great relationship. Where was mom always dropping in Sunday morning between church, or between work stops if possible etc. Granddaughter/daughter doesn't think she is going to get caught staying overnight on other days that family is not out of town
