Very courageous story, all I could say Bravo Thomas. There was no eroticism whatsoever ever but I remained deep in it until came to happy ending. Yes sex is where love is, there is no cast or creed.

A healthy young female slave who is able to bear children would have been sold for $400.00 or more in 1858. Not $3.00. Slaves were very expensive, and only the rich could afford them.

The first Tuxedo was made in the 1880s, twenty years after slavery was abolished.

I like your story, though. It isn't erotic, it's more of a love story. If you did a re-write, and gave the couple more time and good reasons to fall in love, it could be absolutely excellent. You have a talent for description and I already care about your characters.
