I enjoying reading your story. You describe the island of St Croix bet accurately. I can't exactly place the setting but I'm familiar with the sun, sand and sea as I live on St Croix.
I really like how the story is evolving and the characters. Maybe a trip out to turtle beach on buck island or sandy point to see the turtles.
I can't wait for the next chapter
