"Wow. Yes, I would love some. Thanks!" He felt himself smiling, thinking of her cooking stew for him. He saw his partner drive up and told her he had to get back to work.
"See you tomorrow, baby." His voice was low, edgy.
"Bye, Darnell." She almost whispered, as she felt her body begin to tremble at the thought of seeing him. "Be safe. See you tomorrow."
He hung up and slid into the passenger side of the new squad car.
"Hey, do we have time to run over and get a cheeseburger? I am starved, partner." Darnell smiled at him. "Gotta keep up the energy to arrest bad guys!"
Ray looked at him incredulously. What the hell? Where was the snarl, the bad mood? He glanced at his friend for a second, slowly catching on.
"So," he cleared his throat, "how's Jenna?"
"Shut up and drive, Ray." He ordered, but with a smile.

Anonymousover 8 years agoThank you for such a well written and enjoyable tale. I like the characters as they seem very real to me. It is also so refreshing to read an interracial story that portraits emotions. I shall be waiting for the next episode with great anticipation.
