She raised her and Kyle's joined hands and turned them so that her engagement ring was clearly visible. There were several gasps from around the room followed by another round of applause.

"That wonderful boy - now this wonderful man, exhibited god-like patience, tolerance, and devotion for me, and I will forever be thankful for him for teaching me the meaning of life and love. Please join me in toasting my lover, my protector, my partner, my fiancé, my past, my present, and my future. Join me in toasting the best friend any girl could ever have. I love you Kyle Mason."

As she clinked her bottle against his the rest of the room joined the toast and then rose in a standing ovation to the happy couple. As the noise began to fade, Bob Montrose regained the room's attention by tapping the microphone.

"As mentioned earlier, we will have dancing and song dedications later, but we will have one special dedication played now. Karen and Kyle, if you would meet on the dance floor..."

Setting their bottles on the table, Kyle and Karen kissed before walking hand in hand onto the portion of the ballroom set up as a dance floor. They had just reached the center of the area when the lead-in music started.

Bob Montrose spoke into the microphone, "This classic song by Roland Kent LaVoie, performing under the name 'Lobo' was released in 1972. Karen would like to dedicate this song to Kyle, and I am more than happy to honor her request right now..."

Kyle took Karen in his arms and began to lead her around the dance floor, trying to concentrate on the words to the song that she wanted him to hear, as well as the angelic, pleading, apologetic look in her eyes.

"I stopped sending flowers to your apartment
You said you aren't home much anymore
I stopped dropping by without an appointment
Cause I'd hear laughter coming through your door.

Sometimes late at night you'll still call me
Just before you close your eyes to sleep
You make me vow to try and stop by sometime
Baby that's a promise I can't keep.

I love you too much to ever start liking you
So let's just let the story kinda end
I love you too much to ever start liking you
So don't expect me to be your friend...

I read the first 4 pages and had to stop. This kind of crazy doesn't make for long term relationships. I love your writing usually, but this one is horrible.

Reminds me of that important rule: “Don’t stick your dick in crazy!”

I would run a mile a minute to get away from her!!! After I called the Military Police. How could anyone trust a woman who would do all that? I'd be afraid to wake up as she thrust the kitchen knife into my heart for some infringement her demented mind thought up at some time in the future. Muskyboy said it all ""trust is built best from pro-active honesty between two people".... This story was the antithesis of that statement." I'm disappointed to see this from you.

I normally enjoy reading your work, but this was an uncomfortable experience. The female lead(s) just scream emotional toxicity for the male lead, and the rather doormat acceptance of the manipulation by him is just wrong. Well written as normal, but not my cup of tea.

The last couple of pages were okay but the relentless stalking by a psychopath throughout the rest of the story was not entertaining and I would never have read it if it had not been written by you.

Your attempt to rationalize the ongoing actions of Karen was a failure. The nanobots explanation was lame and totally over the top and felt like a desperate device to try and cobble together a even half credible or believable fairytale.

So many contradictions, not the least of which is - "trust is built best from pro-active honesty between two people".... This story was the antithesis of that statement. There are a multitude of additional examples.

Not sure what you were thinking when you wrote this but I hope it is out of your system for good.
