Homelands Pt. 04 Ch. 01

Was she not pretty enough? Too inexperienced? Was Nick just into older women?

She'd have been lying if she said she couldn't relate. As hot as she was for her brother, she'd always had a thing for older men. If their father hadn't left them, she'd probably have been chasing after him all day instead of her brother.

Or maybe it was precisely because she hadn't had a father around growing up that she was into older men. That she'd slept with a few of her professors. And not the younger ones.

Fucking Freud.

"Yeah, okay. Let's do that," Nick said.

Veronica fought the urge to yelp in delight.

What did their mothers have that she didn't have anyway?

"Let's just leave a note for Mom-Gee," he said.

"Good idea," she said, trying to sound causal.

"Should we wait for Patty?" he asked.

Her stomach clenched. Why'd he ask that? There was no need for him to ask that.

"I'm sure she won't mind," she said, calmly. "She mentioned that she was going to go over to Kurt's later anyway. That girl cannot wait for our cousin to turn eighteen."

Nick laughed. "Doesn't have to wait much longer."

"That she doesn't," Veronica said.

Kurt's birthday was, after all, the very next day.

If Patty had been a little more like Olivia, Veronica might even have thought that her sister was planning on jumping the gun and wishing Kurt a happy birthday a little early. But she couldn't see Patty doing that. She was the type of girl who came to full stop at every stop sign or red light, even if there weren't any other cars around. The kind of girl who'd actually reported all the tips waiting tables over the summer when filed her taxes.

"She's going to have a hard time getting him away from Aunt Zoey," Nick said as he scrawled out a note to their mother.

"You think?" Veronica asked.

"Are you kidding? That woman is dying to take her son back inside her womb."

"Honestly, I was starting to wonder if it was actually possible for one of our kind to not have a hyperactive sex drive," Veronica said. "But maybe I'm just giving Eric too much credit, wondering why she's sometimes told him she wasn't in the mood."

But now that she thought about it, it did seem pretty clear that Zoey was smitten with her son. She just kept her cards so close to her chest that it was less obvious than it was with, say, Mom-Gee's lust for Eric. The fact that their aunt wasn't always receptive to Eric's advances didn't mean she was any less interested in sex than the rest of them. Just less interested in Eric than most women were.

Veronica could relate to that. She wouldn't have guessed her aunt was in the "Eric is overrated" club along with her though.

"Looks that way," Nick said. "Most people do though."

Veronica snickered.

She probably should have thought that sounded petty. Maybe even thought that it made Nick sound insecure. But she really didn't think he was jealous of their brother. And there wasn't even the slightest trace of bitterness in his voice. He referred to people giving Eric too much credit as casually, and dispassionately, as he referred to her a beautiful.

That cool confidence was incredibly sexy.

Damn, but she needed her brother inside her. Stat.

If not for the fear that Mom-Gee might walk in at any minute and see them violating the standing prohibition on having sex outside the bedrooms, with doors safely closed and locked, she'd have hopped up on the kitchen table and demanded that he do her right then and there. But she supposed she could wait until they got to his apartment.

She just might have to suck his dick on the way over though.

"Okay," Nick said as he finished writing the note. "Good to go."

"Great," Veronica said.

He stared at her for a few moments. Her knees buckled under the pressure of his penetrating gaze. He must have been reading her Libido.

She wished she was half as good at that as he was. Then she'd have a better idea of whether he was agreeing to this just to humor her. Like when he feigned interest in politics.
